This residential architecture project in Sintra arises from a unique landscape context, where the horizon is defined by the Pena Palace to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. More than simply placing a house on the site, the design seeks to highlight this duality, establishing a direct relationship between the architecture, the topography, and the natural landscape.

The house is developed through a careful reading of the terrain, adopting a layout on successive terraces that follow the existing topography. This approach reduces the construction’s impact on the ground and enhances the visual relationship with the surrounding setting, creating different moments of connection with the landscape—from the symbolic presence of the mountains to the opening toward the sea.

From a structural standpoint, the architecture is defined by an exposed concrete structure, which gives the project its identity and organizes the volumes through horizontal slabs. These elements project outward, creating balconies and habitable outdoor spaces that function as natural extensions of the house and privileged areas for contemplation.

The choice of materials reinforces the building’s integration into the site and its efficiency. Wood contributes to solar control and thermal comfort; glass expands the relationship between interior and exterior, maximizing the entry of natural light; and natural stone ensures the building’s connection to the land, promoting continuity with the surroundings.

The functional layout of the house is clear and efficient. The upper floor houses the more private spaces, designed to strike a balance between views and privacy. The middle floor features the social areas, with an open-plan living room and kitchen that opens directly onto the outdoors. The lower level comprises flexible spaces dedicated to leisure and outdoor activities.

This project reflects a sustainable contemporary architectural approach, where landscape integration, material selection, and the relationship with the topography are key factors. A home conceived from the site itself, where architecture, light, and landscape merge into a continuous experience between the weight of concrete and the lightness of the horizon.
