On March 2 and 3, PMT participated in the Civil Engineering Conference of the Instituto Superior Técnico, an initiative organized by students that brings the academic world closer to the professional civil engineering sector.
Over the course of two days, PMT took part in various events, sharing practical experience and strategic vision on the future of engineering and construction.
**Meet the Bosses: the future of construction**
PMT participated in the “Meet the Bosses” initiative, dedicated to the theme “The future of construction: which companies will survive in the next decade?”
During the conversation, some of the skills that companies most value in young engineers today were discussed. Construction is a complex and demanding activity that requires professionals who are willing to learn, able to work in a team, and open to continuous development. In addition to technical training, soft skills and language proficiency are becoming increasingly important.
It was also highlighted that the job market differs significantly from the academic context, and that many young people arrive at companies with expectations that do not always reflect the reality of the sector.
Manuela Timóteo, CEO of PMT, emphasized that engineering today offers multiple career possibilities, but that the future will increasingly involve specialization: “There are many engineers, but very few specialists. Seek training, be curious, and explore different areas until you find your niche.”
It was also mentioned that, like companies, professionals can also become obsolete if they do not evolve. In this context, Artificial Intelligence should play an important role, automating repetitive tasks and freeing engineers to develop work with greater value and purpose.
**Project Spotlight: modernization of the Vendas Novas railway line**
In the Project Spotlight space, PMT presented its participation in the Vendas Novas Railway Line Modernization project, sharing with students some of the main technical and management challenges associated with railway infrastructure projects. The session highlighted the complexity of supervising and managing large-scale projects, as well as the importance of coordination between multidisciplinary teams.
**Workshop on heritage: Colares Castle and Pillory**
PMT's participation also included a workshop dedicated to the project for the restoration and preservation of Colares Castle and Pillory.
The session introduced students to the technical challenges associated with the rehabilitation and enhancement of historical heritage, from structural analysis to the definition of solutions that reconcile heritage conservation, functionality, and integration into the urban space.
**Bringing academia closer to professional practice**
PMT's presence at the Civil Engineering Conference reinforces the company's commitment to sharing knowledge and connecting academia with the professional sector, helping to prepare new generations of engineers for the future challenges of construction and project management.
